Tar & Chip Surfacing.
A favoured technique for surfacing roads, driveways and carparks is Tar and Chip otherwise referred to as chip and seal. The installation process involves applying a layer of hot liquid asphalt (tar) onto a pre-prepared surface and then immediately covered with a layer of aggregate chips. The latter adhere to the sticky tar which then provides a surface that has several advantages including it is a less expensive option when compared to other techniques.
The benefits of this technique is that the completed road surface offers excellent traction, is skid resistant, it prevents water from accumulating and is ideal for heavy traffic. The material is also durable and requires minimal maintenance this also makes it a more affordable option when compared to alternative surfacing materials.
